Enjoying cooler temperatures.

No rain today.  We are still enjoying cooler temperatures.  I don’t think it reached 75 degrees.  Very nice.

For breakfast John cooked strawberry French toast.  Very tasty.

Not much going on in the park today. Since the weather was so nice we decided to eat dinner outside.

Baked sweet potatoes, grilled carrots, meatloaf and ratatouille. Yum Yum.

After the sun went down it was time to play some 10 Penny.  Mike won the first round and I won the second.  We all had triple digit scores so the games were very interesting. LOL

Watching the sunset.

This afternoon we all went into Jackson to Wal-mart for a few groceries and to pick up prescription refills.   On our way back home we stopped off by the vegetable produce place located just down the road from our campground.  It is a self service produce stand that operates on the honor system.  It is hard to believe that in today’s world that still exists in some places. We have purchased vegetables from this place several times and have never been disappointed.  Today we got white eggplant, cucumbers and tomatoes.
For dinner tonight we had grilled chicken, homemade rice pilaf, fresh corn, cucumber and tomato salad and fruit salad. Everything was delicious.

The rain finally left.

We woke up to gray rainy skies but as the day progressed the skies turned a little bluer and by early afternoon the rain was gone.  We are so glad the farmers got some much needed rain but are also glad it has stopped for a while.
Since the weather was so bad it was a good day to clean out the refrigerator and stuff like that.  So much fun….NOT! LOL
Tonight Mike and Leslie came over for dinner.  Mike grilled a flat iron steak and Leslie cooked a cherry tart.  We combined all our stuff together and had a great meal.

Two days of rain.

Not much going on around here but cooler temperatures and rain.  It has rained here two days in a row.  It is a good thing for the farmers in this area because the crops sure need it.  Today we rode into Jackson to Kroger’s and so I could spend my Kohl’s cash before it expired.  Rain or shine I couldn’t let my Kohl’s cash expire.LOL
Tonight we went to  Mike and Leslie’s for dinner and a movie.   Leftover pulled pork and pork tenderloin, fresh veggies and bread.  Our movie was The Help, it was great.  Still raining but should end sometime tonight.

Wilson Sleek Signal Booster

TUESDAY, August 7th

John was up early and off to the post office to pick up his package.  He ordered a Wilson Sleek Signal booster for our air card a few days ago and it finally arrived.  As soon as he got back home he installed it and the internet reception is much better.

After lunch we were off to Jackson to run some errands.  Of course we had to stop in at Wal-mart then on the way home we stopped by the organic vegetable farm for a few more vegetables.  We had dinner at Mike and Leslie’s tonight.

WEDNESDAY,  August 8th

Today the four of us went to Lansing to the movies.  We saw Hope Springs and enjoyed it.  Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones were wonderful in it.  On the way back home we stopped off at Meijer’s to look around.  We don’t have this store back home in Mississippi and wanted to check it out.  It reminds me of a cross between Wal-mart and K-mart.

For dinner tonight Leslie and I combined some left overs with a few more vegetables.  It was very tasty.   After dinner we decided to play 10 Penny.  We were playing our first game when one of the residents of the park came by.  His daughter had lots of extra vegetables from her garden and left them with him to offer to everyone at the campground.   I came away with some peppers, corn, squash, eggplant and tomatoes.  It was greatly appreciated.

Mom Hatch doing well.

Update on Mom Hatch:  She is doing well and will probably get to go home tomorrow.

This morning the work campers came around and pumped out the black tank.  This is done every Monday and is provided by the park as part of the site fee.   Very nice.

Tonight we went to Mike and Leslie’s for dinner.  We brought over some fresh corn to combine with some they had purchased.  Leslie also prepared ratatouille, potatoes and bread.  Everything was delicious.  Thank you Mike and Leslie for a wonderful meal.

Dinner at Fred and Pam’s

This afternoon Mike, Leslie, John and I drove over to Fred and Pam’s for dinner.  This was our first time to meet them.  Mike and Leslie know them from their stay in Kerrville, TX.   Pam served pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes and green beans for dinner.  It was so delicious.  Later Sandy and Jim, also Mike and Leslie’s friends from Kerrville, TX, came over and joined all of us for dessert.   We had angel food cake, fresh fruit and oatmeal cookies.  We enjoyed meeting Fred, Pam, Jim and Sandy.  Thank you Fred and Pam for a wonderful dinner.

Shopping

Today we went into Jackson to do some retail therapy, well the ladies did.  We went to Sears, back to Kohl's (I'm sure we will be back before to long), TJ Maxx, and a bunch of other stores in a strip shopping mall.  Mike and Leslie had their hair cut and they both cleaned up well.  Walmart was also on the list for groceries and we stopped at a local farmer vegetable stand that said open but was actually on the honor system.  Surprisingly enough it had money in it.  We totaled our items and added to it.  We enjoyed a great dinner of salmon patties, corn on the cob and a green salad.  Ten penny, a bowl of fruit salad and a few rounds of chase the ace finished our evening.

Mom Hatch doing well after surgery.

Mom Hatch underwent surgery to remove a mass in her colon today.  The doctor said it was about the size of a 50 cent piece.  The surgery went as expected and she is doing well.
This morning we all went into town.  Mike had a follow-up appointment with the cardiologist.  The doctor said Mike is doing better than expected.  We are so happy he is doing well.  While Mike and Leslie were at the doctor’s office John and I walked two blocks to the farmers’ market to look around.  There were vendors selling homemade soap, lotions,  breads, cinnamon rolls, cheese, beef, vegetables, fruit, and jewelry.  After walking through the market we purchased some soap and a cinnamon roll then walked back to the doctor’s office to wait for Mike and Leslie.  Our timing was perfect.  A few minutes after we returned Mike and Leslie were ready to go.
On our way back home we couldn’t resist stopping by the organic vegetable farm to see what new vegetables they had.  We got more Swiss chard, wax beans, potatoes, Japanese eggplant and a large tomato.  Our next stop was the Dewey School Museum located just a few miles from the campground.  The school had been in operation from 1844 to 1963.  When we arrived the volunteer was packing up her things to leave after giving a tour to a day care group.  She was more than happy to stay a few more minutes and talk to us about the school.
