Mother's Day and MacKay Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Mother's Day turned out to be a beautiful sunny day.  John made me some pancakes for breakfast. They were yummy.

There were lots of them so we froze the left overs for later.

We spent the afternoon visiting MacKay Island Wildlife Refuge.  There were lots of turtles out sunning.

Yesterday John and I met my friend and former co-worker Mike Knight and his wife Pam for lunch at a place called Lynnhaven Fish House.   This is a very nice restaurant.  Great service, good food and excellent scenery.

Mike and I worked together at TSC, Inc. a few years ago.  After he retired he moved to the Eastern Shore in Virginia and loves it there.   So good to see him and Pam again.

John had crab cakes, a baked sweet potatoe and cole slaw.

I had the grilled chicken club sandwich. 

Pam had the "Seafood Tower".  It was so pretty I had to take a picture of it. 

Today was a travel day for us.  Our destination, Gettysburg RV Resort in Gettysburg, PA.  The trip was uneventful....well...just a little rain.  We arrived in Gettysurg and were all set up before 3:00 p.m. This is our third time staying here and as usual it is raining. LOL

Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge

Wednesday afternoon we drove over to Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge.  We met a couple of the volunteers there and shared refuge experiences.  After checking the place out we went for a ride on the wildlife drive.  This is my favorite part because you never know what you will see.

One of the volunteers told us there had been lots of bear sightings recently.  We did see a bear but it was too far off to get a decent picture.  Here are a few pictures from our drive. 

Yesterday was a travel day for us. Our trip was uneventful and we arrived at Indian Cove Resort in Virginia Beach, VA around 3:00 p.m.

The view from the back of our site.  You can tell it had rained here recently.  The ground was saturated.  Lucky for us it wasn't raining when we arrived.

Later in the evening someone in the park had an emergency.  I sure hope it wasn't something serious.

Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge

Sunday we spent the day visiting Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and revisiting Bodie Island, Ocracoke and Cape Hatteras Lighthouses.  It was beautiful day for a road trip.

The volunteer working at the visitor center knows our friend Judy Bell.  We shared volunteer stories with her then checked out the exhibits.

Back in 2004, when I retired the first time, John and I took a vacation to this area and visited the lighthouses.  As I was looking through some old photos, I found one of John at Ocracoke Lighthouse.  I thought it would be cool to take a new one and compare the two.

Since Pea Island Refuge and Bodie Island Lighthouse are located in close vicinity to each other we stopped there first then took the ferry across to revisit Ocracoke Island Lighthouse.

We were hungry after all that touring around so we grabbed a bite to eat at a little cafe called Dajio.  They have daily happy hour half pound shrimp for $6.99.  John also had the fish tacos and we split a chocolate cherry cake dessert entree.

The ferry ride back takes an hour so we got back before dark.  Just in time to get a cool picture of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse with the light on.

Yesterday we didn't venture too far to sightsee....just 1.6 miles from our campground.  The Inn at Rodanthe is right up the road.  This is the Inn that was in the movie Nights in Rodanthe starring Richard Gere and Dianne Lane, from the Nicholas Sparks book.  There were two other vehicles riding through looking at it while we were snapping pictures. 

Later in the afternoon we took a long stroll on the beach.  It was very windy but a beautiful day. 

John was able to get this shot of a crab before he escaped into a hole.

We woke up gusting winds this morning.  The wind was blowing so hard the front slide was moving so John pulled in the slides on the right side until it subsides.  It has rained on and off this morning but other than that it isn't too bad.
