Demolition Derby.

Tonight Mike, Leslie, John and I , along with Grant and Carson, two of their grandsons, attended the Demolition Derby in Eagle Mountain.  The event was very successful as it was sold out.  We arrived early so we could get good seats.  It was a good thing because it was so packed with people some were standing and others were sitting on fold out chairs.

After the sun went down the temperatures dropped dramatically and we were all getting cold.  It was fun and we all had a great time.

Sightseeing with Mike and Leslie.

This morning Mike, Leslie, John and I decided to go sightseeing.  On our way out we noticed a large funeral procession and stopped on the side of the road along with everyone else.  The funeral must have been for a military person.  There were military vehicles as well as police and fire department vehicles and lots of flags along the side of the road.  People were standing along the roadside holding flags.  Very touching.

This is the flag at the end of the procession.

Mike and Leslie took us to see Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon.   Bridal Veil Falls is a 607 foot tall double cataract waterfall in the South end of Provo Canyon.  Beautiful scenery.

Sad news from MS.

Left Delta, UT around 9:30 and made it to Provo just before lunch.  After arriving Mike and Leslie treated us to lunch at CafĂ© Rio Mexican Grill.  The food was delicious.  Thanks Mike and Leslie.

Tonight we were invited to have dinner with Mike and Leslie at their daughter and her family’s home.  It was nice to finally meet all of them.  We had a great time and enjoyed a great meal.  Our thanks to them for inviting us.

On a sad note.  While we were out tonight we received word that my sister’s little dog Gordon took sick suddenly and passed away this afternoon.  He was 14 years old.  This little dog was dumped at the end of their road when he was just a few months old.  He was very sick so Annie nursed him back to health and he became one of their family.  I know he will be missed by Annie, Terry and Ash, their black lab.  Our thoughts are with her and Terry during this sad time.

Memorial Day, the Shoe tree and bottles in the ground.

A special thanks to all of our men and women that proudly serve to protect us.  Let your Memorial Day celebrations honor them.

Today is our last day in Delta, Utah.   The park was almost full over the weekend but has started to thin out as the “weekend warriors” have started to head home.  After lunch we decided to go riding around.  John was reading "Travels with Emma" blog the other day and Judy had mentioned a website that he found interesting (Roadside America) and he bookmarked it.  He looked up the area we were in and found out about a shoe tree in Hinckley, the next town over, so we went to check it out.  Apparently one day someone threw their old shoes up into the tree and started a tradition.  Strange but interesting.  I thought it was picture worthy.

A closer view.

Another unusual thing we have noticed about Delta, Utah and the surrounding areas, are empty beer bottles stuck upside down into the ground along the shoulder of the road.   I haven’t found out what the significance of this is but I would sure like to know.

this one all by itself.
We have seen this on most of the roadways in Delta.  They are always upside down on the  shoulder of the road.  Most are in a pile of dirt.  It makes me go, huh?
Tomorrow we will travel on to Provo, UT to meet up with our friends Mike and Leslie.

Rock Crawler Event–Day 2

We attended the final competition for the rock crawlers today.  It was a very windy day but otherwise, perfect for the event.

This is the guy it belonged to.  He said he used it to get to the restroom and back quickly.  LOL  Looks a bit overloaded to me.

This is a firefighter’s jeep.  His friend/spotter holding the strap on the right slipped and injured his ankle on the rocks right after this picture.

100_1190

He finally made it down from the rocks and was not able to put any weight on the foot and was in pain.

100_1192

The event officials tried to convince him to go get his ankle X-Rayed.  I don’t know if he went or not but he was definitely finished for the day.

The event came to a close with two races on an obstacle course.  The dust was so bad and the track so large we weren’t able to get pictures of that.  It was very interesting to watch.

Rock Crawlers

There hasn’t been much going on in this little town of Delta since we have been here; except changes in the temperature.  It has dipped into the 40s the past couple of night.  I don’t like that.   Fred has met several people and dogs that he likes here.  LOL

Yesterday John was reading through the information the park office gave us and noticed there was an Old School Rock Crawl being held Friday and Saturday.  We spent our afternoon enjoying this event.  Cool stuff.
