Fun with Barb and Bob.

We left Alma, NE on Friday, September 25th and moved on to Halstead, KS.  The last time we were in this area was in September, 2011.  We had left the Escapees Rally and were making our way to Spring Lake RV Resort when the Freightliner blew a turbo.  It was not a good day.

We remember that day well.  Seeing your vehicle being towed is never a good sight.

This time however, our trip was uneventful and we made it to Spring Lake RV Resort without any breakdowns.  Yeah!!   On Friday night we went to the clubhouse for burgers and bingo.  Just as we were finishing with our burgers a couple came and sat next to us for bingo.  They are also full time RVers and happened to be parked next to us.    We were chatting before the bingo game started and John told them they would probably win because anyone who sits with us usually wins.  It is funny but true.  Usually everyone at our table wins but us. On the very first game our neighbor won.  Too funny.  On the worst card game, John was the first one to sit down.   Surprisingly, I actually won one of the games.    We had a great time meeting and visiting with our neighbors.

Saturday night was the big hog roast at the clubhouse.  The place was crowded.  We had roasted hog, sweet potato casserole, baked beans, salad and a roll.  Very tasty.  After dinner we attended the Walter Plant concert.   He was also here in 2011 when we were here.  Walter is a blind pianist and singer.  Very talented.   The night ended with a small bonfire on the grounds.

Monday our friends Barb and Bob arrived.  They had had a long travel day so we had a spaghetti supper ready for them.  We always have such a great time with them.  Lots of laughs.   After dinner was game time.  We played a couple or so rounds of Rummikub.  Since we all were traveling the next day we ended the night early.

Bob strategizing his next play.

Barb studying her next play.

John just realized his last play will allow him to go out.

Look at the scores.  That will probably never happen again.

John found a place for us to eat breakfast before we hit the road.  A little place in Newton, KS called Bread Basket.....a buffet.  The food was good but the laughs were better.

You know John and Bob are always up to something.

Of course there is always a camera ready to document their antics.

As usual Barb and I had some good laughs.

John was there to document it. We laughed til we hurt.  A great start to our day.

Soon it was time to say our "see ya laters" and get on the road.

Jacks up, slides in, ready to roll.

John cleaning the grass off Bob's steps.

We travelled the same route for a little while before going our separate ways.  So glad we got to meet up with them again.  We wish them safe travels and hope to see them again real soon.

There they go.

Our destination yesterday was Linn Valley, KS.  The trip was uneventful and we arrived before 2:00 p.m.

Laugh everyday.   Happy trails.  Stay safe.

Revisiting the Badlands.

Yesterday we arrived in the Badlands and stayed in Cedar Pass Campground.  We stayed in the same park three years ago and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.  After getting setup we drove around to checkout the scenery again and to see if any wildife were out and about.

Our site.
The view from our site.

The Badlands always amaze me.  Upon first look it seems like a desolate, dry and lonely place that goes on as far as the eye can see.   But when you take the time to really look at it you notice the quiet beauty of the place as well as some wildlife.

Doesn't this guy look like he posed just for us.

Love those little prairie dogs.

After dinner John and I went out for a walk around the campground and made it back just as the sun was setting.

We were up very early this morning.....6:30 a.m.  I actually went outside and took a sunrise photo.

There aren't many mornings that we are up and about this early.   I think I have become allergic to it. Anyway, we had decided last night to get on the road early and drive longer to skip one of our overnight stays.

Our trip today was uneventful and we made it to Methodist Cove COE Park in Alma, NE before 4:00 p.m.  This is the second time we have stayed at this park.  Nice place with full hook ups.

Here we are all set up.

Laugh everyday.  Happy trails.  Stay safe.

Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Jambonz and Sweet Tea!

Today was our last day in the Rapid City area.  We visited the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood early this afternoon.  We stopped at Wild Bill Hickock's and Calamity Jane's grave site to get some pictures and met this nice lady (Diane) who took our picture for us.   While talking to her I learned she and her husband are now full-time RVers and are from Alabama.   Since the tour is almost all up hill and very steep...which is not very good for my foot, John went on ahead and took pictures and I stayed behind and visited with Diane.  Thanks for taking the picture of us Diane.  We wish her safe travels and, who knows, we might just see her down the road again somewhere.

Here are some of the pictures John took.

At the rear of the cemetery there is an overlook where you can see Deadwood down below.

It was close to dinner time when we left the cemetery so we decided to stop in and check out Jambonz Grill and Pub in Sturgis.  Jambonz serves cajun food as well as other Southern entrees.  The good was quite tasty and the service was great.

They even had sweet tea.
John tried the "pile of dirt" beer.

After looking over the menu we ordered the soul food platter so we could split it.  It was more than enough food.

John's half: BBQ ribs, slaw, collard greens and half a biscuit.
My half:  Breaded shrimp, mac-n-cheese, fried okra and my half of the biscuit. LOL  I couldn't eat all of mine so I gave my leftovers to John. The fried okra was prepared just like we do it back home.  Very good.

It was still early and we had a little while before the sun set so we drove over to Custer State Park again.  We wanted to checkout the wildlife one more time.  We saw the usual things, burros, prong horn, deer and buffalo.

This guy was  walking next to the road.

Just before the sun went down we saw a coyote walking around in an open field.  So cool.

Tomorrow will be a travel day for us.  Our destination will be the Badlands.

Laugh everyday.  Happy trails.  Stay safe.
