Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Today we toured the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  The Richard Petty Driving Experience had several people participating in it so we weren’t able to ride on the track.  We were able to tour one of the private suites.  That was cool.

When we finished with our tour we drove down the strip before heading back home.   It is still just as colorful and busy as we remembered it from 2008.

Tomorrow we plan to see Hoover Dam.  The new road has been completed since our last visit so we want to check it out.

Mt. Whitney

Today we took a road trip to Mount Whitney, which is the highest summit in the contiguous United States with an elevation of 14,505.  Last week we were at the lowest point in the United States at 282 ft. below sea level.  That would be Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park just a little over 84 miles from here.  This is the Wiki link if you would like to read more about Mount Whitney, CA.
Since it was going to be an all day trip, we took Fred along.  I know he enjoyed it.

Our first stop on the way to Mt. Whitney was Rhyolite.

We drove through Rhyolite and looked at the old building/ruins.   Very interesting to look at.  Lots of history in this area.  This is the Wiki link if you would like to read more about Rhyolite, NV.

We made it to the trailhead for Mount Whitney (as far as you can drive).  It was cloudy and snowing so we really couldn't see Mt. Whitney.  The scenery was beautiful.

Happy Birthday Cousin Margaret.

My cousin Margaret is celebrating a birthday today.  We hope she had a great day.  Happy Birthday Margaret.

We had cooler temperatures today.  It was 56 degrees when we got up this morning.  One of the coolest mornings we have had since being here.   It was snowing on Mt. Charleston today.

This was our view of Mt. Charleston from our window just before dark tonight.

We haven’t been doing much lately, just chilling out.  Tomorrow we plan to take a road trip to Mt. Whitney.  Hopefully, we will get some good pictures.
