More work on the patio.

We are having fantastic weather here right now.  By the afternoon it gets into the high 70s and low 80s.  I am really liking that.  It hasn't rained in a while.

Friday afternoon our supervisor John came by to work on the patio for our site....and it was his day off.  I think he really works seven days a week.  John assited him with some of the work.

He had an audience while he was working.
The blue heeler is DJ, John's dog.  The Austrailan Shepard is Eva his foster dog.  They were both very good dogs and didn't get into trouble while they were working.

I fixed pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans for dinner and invited John to eat with us. After all he worked really really hard.  We really appreciate his efforts to make our stay here an enjoyable one. The dogs even got a few scraps as a treat.

Dinner at George's.

Tonight we had a special treat.  We went to dinner at George's.  The weather was just right for cooking out.  George's husband Mike grilled some perfect steaks. They were so tasty and went well with the delicious salad, rice, asparagus and bread that George prepared.  A huge thank you to them for inviting us.  We had a great time.

George has two little dogs Foster Brooks and Rusty.  They are both so cute.  I loved getting to pet them.
This is Foster Brooks.  I couldn't get a good picture of him.

Patio for the RV Site

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people in Texas who are experiencing the devastation from the flood waters.  So tragic.  I have relatives that live in the hill country and they are all safe.

This afternoon our boss was at our site with two other local volunteers to start work on a patio for us.  It is going to be a nice size.  Very cool.  When it is finished we will be having a cookout and invite the group over.

John S. and Bob.

Warmer temperatures are in the forecast for the next few days....upper 70s. Yeah...my kind of weather.

Memorial Day

Tomorrow we honor those who served in our military forces.  Freedom is not free. Without their sacrifices we would not enjoy the freedoms we have today.  Thank you to those who have served and those who still serve today.

Today I worked the morining shift at the Wildlife Center.  During my shift I had 52 visitors, mostly families.  I finally remembered to snap a few pictures.

Another view of the front of the center.  The chalk board is used for people to post sightings.  This morning a little girl drew a snake on it.  If you look close you can see her drawing.

Bird Festival

Last week the refuge was a very busy place with getting everything ready for the Bird Festival on Saturday (Over 800 people attended). John helped haul supplies, put up tents and signs and lots of other miscellaneous stuff.  The festival is a free event for the community.  There was something for everybody to enjoy:  Conestoga Wagon rides through the refuge, bird house building, archery, a scavenger hunt and crafts, just to name a few.  Friday afternoon we had a trial run on the wagon ride.

Marty and Brenda enjoying the ride.

The archery site.
The eagle's nest is located on the wagon's route.  Great chance for people to get a photo.

We were all tired after the festival was over but a few of us went out for a bite to eat.  John was busy Monday and Tuesday helping put away tents and other supplies from the festival.  Yesterday was a mowing day for him.  He mowed the area around the RV sites and the bunkhouse.  While he was mowing around the RV sites he mowed right up to some honey bees on a tree.

They were gone this morning.

I have been working at the Wildlife Center as well as the chemical inventory project.  We have had lots of visitors at the center.  Sunday we had close to 200 people.

We are enjoying warm weather this week.  I am liking that.

Happy Mother's Day

We have been keeping busy at the refuge.  John with his mowing and maintenence stuff and me at the Wildlife Center.  Last Saturday John and I went out to eat with some of the crew from the refuge.   We ate at a place called Clancy's located in the downtown district of Sherwood.  They serve delicious fish tacos there.  Had a great time with a great group of people.

John, Rachel, John S., Tyler, Jenna and me.  I look like I am angry in this picure. LOL

Happy Mother's Day to my mom, John's Mom, our daughter-in-law and all the other mothers out there.  Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.   I will be working at the Wildlife Center so I hope it will be busy.   The weatherman has forecasted a sunny and warm day. Yeah!!

Road trip to Boring.

This morning John and I took a trip to Boring, OR to take the refuge's 4-wheeler to the Polaris repair shop.  It wasn't a long trip, just two and a half hours total.  I know..... we work so hard.

John going over the repair list with the tech.

While we were there I noticed some cool looking rides parked out front.
Polaris Slingshot.
I sure would like to take one for a spin.  Too bad they are so expensive, plus we don't have anywhere to put one.

Tomorrow is a work day for me.   I will be at the Wildlife Center in the morning.
