Last day in Detroit Lakes.

This is our last day in Detroit Lakes.  We had 70 degrees for a high today and sunny skies.  My kind of weather.  Later this afternoon we took a drive around the area to get more pictures of the changing leaves.

Tomorrow we will head out making our way toward Branson.
Fred went to bed early to rest up.

Chocolate pie, rain and homemade soup.

FRIDAY:

Since it was a very windy and rainy day and John couldn't go golfing he got in the kitchen and made homemade chocolate pie. The whole pie was made from stratch and it is so good.

 Ahh......his master piece. LOL

We had thunder, lightning and some heavy rain.  Fred was not a happy camper.

SATURDAY:

Woke up to light rain and 49 degrees.  The rain finally stopped around lunch time but the high today was 53 degrees.  This kind of weather is just right for homemade vegetable soup so that is what I made for supper.  The only thing missing was the cornbread.  I ran out of my Martha White cornmeal and have not been able to find any in this area so we had crackers instead.

The soup hit the spot.  Sadly, there was none left over.  Homemade soup makes me think of my Grandmaw Burns everytime I make it.  I can still remember enjoying a bowl of her homemade soup. There was nothing better.

The forecast for tomorrow indicates warmer temperatures and sunny skies.  Sounds good to me.

Happy Birthday Savannah.

Our great niece Savannah is celebrating her 17th birthday today.  Happy Birthday Savannah.  We hope you had a wonderful day.  Love you.

Savannah

John thought about going golfing today but changed his mind because it was just too windy.  He checked the forecast and found that it will be windy for the next couple of days with the possibility of rain and cooler temperatures.

On one of my walks today I snapped a few pictures of the changing leaves.  You can tell fall is definitely in the air.

By the time we leave here the leaves will probably change quite a bit.

Next Year??

MONDAY:

Our adventure today consisted of driving to the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge to meet the volunteer coordinator for work camping.  We met with her and filled out applications to be considered for future volunteer positions.  She will go through the applications and we will know one way or the other by Jan. 1st.

While we were there we got to see Judy.  She is having problems with her refrigerator again. Bummer.  John looked at it for her and he thinks it is the compressor.  She has a call in to get it repaired.  Hopefully they will send someone to fix it quickly.

TODAY:

Not much going on.  Just chilling out with Fred.

It is not windy today.  Yeah!!   Activity in this park has slowed down quite a bit since we arrived.  There are lots of seasonal units here.  Most of them are packing things up and getting ready to head South for the winter.   I have been able to go on my walks almost everyday as the weather has been nice and warm.  It seems like the leaves are changing day by day.  They were green when we arrived and some have turned yellow and orange.  I hope to get some pictures of them tomorrow.

Laugh everyday.  Happy trails.  Stay safe.

Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge

Woke up to bright sunshine today.  Yeah!!  Finally the rain is gone.  John and I drove to the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge outside of Detroit Lakes to meet Judy a fellow blogger who has been working there.   She took us on a tour of the place.  We saw bald eagles, a red tailed hawk, Canadian geese, trumpeter swans as well as historic Chipewa Indian sites.   The refuge is such a beautiful peaceful place.  Thanks Judy for giving us the tour. It was so good to finally meet you in person.

This is the bald eagle born this year on the refuge

A drive around Detroit Lakes.

During the night we had some rain.  It remains rather windy here but the temperatures are tolerable.....in the 70s by the afternoon.  Later on today we took a drive around the area to check out where everything was and to see what the surrounding area looked like.
The Veterans Memorial located in the downtown Detroit Lakes area.

Not much else going on.  Just chilling out and relaxing.

Detroit Lakes, Minnesota

Yesterday we turned in our time sheets, keys and work vehicle to the park manager at Fort Ransom and headed out to Detroit Lakes, MN.  We enjoyed working there.  Although, I don't really think we worked that hard.  We were out of the park and on the road by 10:30.

Our trip to Detroit Lakes was uneventful and we were all set up by 1:30.  While John was hooking up the sewer line he pulled something in his back.  Poor John.   He has a back brace somewhere in the RV.  I have searched every drawer and cabinet but cannot find it.  It is amazing how you can lose something in such a small living space.  He is doing better today.

Our site.  (We have 50 AMP....Yeah!!!!)

The high today was in the mid 70s and very windy.  That is ok with me as long as the temperatures don't take a dramatic plunge.

John cooked ribs, baked beans and slaw for dinner tonight.  It was very tasty.

A fellow blogger we follow "Travels with Emma" is volunteering at Tamarac NWR just North of us.  We are going to try to get together before she heads South.  We will be heading South Oct 1.

Last day at Fort Ransom State Park.

This was our last work day at Fort Ransom State Park.  It doesn't seem like it has been a month.  Time has flown by.  We have enjoyed working here and meeting some great people.

Here we are riding down the road leading to the park looking for trash along the road.
Lucky me there was trash at the bottom of the ditch.

Ah.....more trash.

After our usual trash run we made the rounds inside the park.  Not much to do as there were only two RVs in the campground.  It made for a short work day.

My sister posted some new pictures of Robert, Kelsey and Ava on facebook so I copied them to share.

They were having a birthday celebration for Robert at my Mom and Dad's house.   Can't wait to see them all in November.

Tomorrow we will be traveling to Detroit Lakes, MN.

Happy Birthday Robert.

Today our son Robert is celebrating his 31st birthday.  Hard to believe he is that old.  Time sure does fly by.

Happy Birthday Robert.  We love you.

This morning John got the coffee ready for our "Coffee with the Campground Host" just as the rain started.  Needless to say, no one was out and about in the rain this morning.  The rain continued into the late afternoon.

The BMW Motorcycle Club is having their rally here this weekend.  They were in and out of the park during the day so I guess the rain didn't dampen their plans too much.

Happy Birthday Terry.

Today my sister's husband, Terry is celebrating his birthday.
Happy Birthday Terry.  Hope you have wonderful day.

John and I made the trash run this morning then spent the rest of the day splitting and bundling fire wood.  The temperatures were in the 70s with a slight breeze so we had great weather for working outside.
The hydraulic wood splitter.
The device the park uses to place wood to be bundled.
Some of the wood we split.
John tying a bundle.

Tonight we sold several bundles of fire wood to the BMW motorcycle group who will be holding their rally in the park this weekend.  We were told there would possibly be around 80 bikes.  Should be an interesting weekend.

Happy Birthday Betty.

As we begin our day today we are reminded of that day 12 years ago when terrorists attacked our country.  The loss is still too tragic to comprehend.  We remember those who perished that day and will never forget 9/11.

Our dear friend Betty Klaas is celebrating a birthday today.

Happy Birthday Betty.  We hope you have a wonderful day.

Today was one of our days off but since the park is short staffed John helped out with placing the placards on the campsites.

After he finished with that he washed the RV.  Our time here is about to come to an end.  We will be leaving on Tuesday.  The time has flown by.

Laugh everyday.  Happy trails.  Stays safe.
