A day of hiking with Howard and Linda.

Up early this morning and off to Logan’s Pass in Glacier National Park to meet Howard and Linda for our first hiking trip.  We are looking forward to taking some awesome pictures and enjoying the beautiful scenery.  The weather forecast mentioned a possible hail storm for the area we planned to hike in.  John asked the ranger at the visitor’s center and was told we had time for a short hike before the storm moved in.  When Howard and Linda arrived she gave me some instructions on how to use the hiking poles.  Thank you Linda.  It made a big difference in my hiking experience.
On our first hike was to Hidden Lake Overlook.  Lots of snow was still on the ground so we had to proceed with caution.  We were almost halfway when we felt a few sprinkles  and turned back.  Lucky for us the sprinkling stopped so we turned back around and ventured on to Hidden Lake Overlook.  The journey took us a little while but it was so worth it.   Everywhere we looked there was wildlife.  Mountain goats, sheep, marmots, ground squirrels, a weasel and a grizzly bear were all out today.

Lots of snow on our path so we had to take it slow.

The grizzly bear we saw was at the top corner of the lake.  We were able to see him through the binoculars but couldn’t get a picture from so far away.

We had a visitor while we were eating lunch.
After we completed our 2.7 mile hike we all decided we were ready to go again so we loaded up and rode over to the trailhead for St. Mary and Virginia Falls.  This hike would be a total of 3.6 miles.  Wow, we really got our exercise in today. LOL.
Our first stop was St. Mary Falls.  All I can say is……AWESOME!

Woodpeckers we saw on our way back.
Just as we made it back to the parking lot the rain started.  So glad it waited until we were finished with our hike.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first hiking experience.  A big thank you to Howard and Linda for showing us the ropes.
Laugh everyday.  Happy trails.  Stay safe.

  4. Looks like a great day! Hard to believe there's still snow on the ground, when here in the southern part of Montana (Bighorn Canyon) it's bee 90+ degrees all week!
