Touring Savannah

Fred decided to get up at 6:30 this morning so I fed him then we went for an early walk.  John did not rise until around 9:00.

Before lunch we drove into Savannah to see what we could get into.  We decided to take one of the trolley tours and site see through the city.  Savannah is a beautiful city with loads of history.  They also have an over abundance of restaurants.  Close to the end of the tour John and I got off on River Street to find a place to eat lunch.  There are so many places to choose from.  While walking down River Street we saw a place called Dockside Seafood Restaurant that looked interesting so we decided to stop there.  We had the lunch buffet which was loaded with fried chicken, fried shrimp, pot roast, mashed potatoes, rice, squash casserole, collard greens, green beans, macaroni and cheese, creamed corn and last but not least……peach cobbler.  Funny how it always comes back to food. LOL

After arriving back at the camper I decided I would cook spaghetti and meat sauce with meatballs and a meatloaf so I could freeze it for when I don’t feel like cooking.  That does happen from time to time. LOL

Sea Trawler

We got up around 8:30 this morning and finished laundry and other household cleaning. After lunch we drove over to Hunting Island Lighthouse in Saint Helena Island. It was open to the public so we walked to the top and enjoyed the scenery. By the time we completed this lighthouse tour it was mid afternoon which allowed us enough time to drive to Hilton Head Island to see Harbor Town Lighthouse. We were not able to tour this one but John did get a picture. Now it was time to head back to the campground.

John and I had notice a restaurant called the Sea Trawler in Bluffton, South Carolina on our way back to the campground and since we were both hungry……well…….you know where we went. LOL This was the best “restaurant” meal we have had on the road so far. John ordered wild salmon in a citrus ginger sauce with rice and vegetables and I chose the stuffed flounder with lump crab meat topped with a Dijon sauce with mashed potatoes and vegetables. When the server brought our drinks he also brought a bucket of hushpuppies to snack on. These were so tasty we brought the leftovers home. While we were waiting on dinner John enjoyed a cup of Low-Country chowder which contained shrimp, clams, bacon and corn in a creamy sauce. I tasted a spoonful of this and it was delicious. The service and food were both excellent. If you are ever in this area and feel like splurging on a tasty dinner try this place.

Tomorrow we plan to ride a trolley through Savannah…then…who knows. I sure we will find something to get into.

Ridgeland Fire Department

Slept in until 8:30 including Fred. He usually wakes up around 6 to eat but failed to wake up early this morning thank goodness. After Oatmeal, I called All American Direct to get set up with ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX on our satellite. Luckily this park has a free long distance and fax service. They called this afternoon and had us reset our Dish receiver so we are set up.
Around noon we headed out to Ridgeland Fire Department and talked with the guys there and checked out their trucks. I will be retiring from Ridgeland FD July 1st, Ridgeland, MS that is, we visited Ridgeland, S.C. today. After spending an hour or so there we received the lunch recommendation of Jasper's Porch, a buffet. Good food and we left FULL. Found a Walmart not to far then back home we went. Unloaded grub and headed to the visitor center in Savannah for info on things to do. Charles gave us alot of info when we were in Jacksonville visiting them. Some of our readers know Charles (Roz) on the RV Dreams forums. Sadly we received an email from him saying their dog Rex passed away yesterday, he was 14. Please remember Charles and Ethel in your prayers as it is tough losing a pet.

Goodbye Jacksonville, Hello Hardeeville.

Got up early and headed out to see Amelia Island Lighthouse in Fernandina Beach, Florida this morning. The lighthouse was on U.S. Coast Guard property and was posted no trespassing so the picture is from a distant roadway. The lighthouse museum was a few blocks from the lighthouse. While there John and I stopped in for breakfast at a quaint little cafe called Bright Mornings. John had the blueberry pancakes and I chose bacon, eggs and wheat toast. When the server takes your order they bring a sliced muffin with two kinds of preserves or marmalade to munch on until your food arrives. The food and service were excellent.

After seeing the lighthouse and getting the passport stamped at the museum we caught the ferry and made it back in time for check out at Hanna Park. We drove over to Harold and Sandie’s and parked the RV in their front yard so we could have lunch with them before heading out to Hardeeville, SC. We dined at El Potro Mexican restaurant which is a favorite of Harold and Sandie’s. The food was delicious. When lunch was over it was time to say our goodbyes and hit the road again. Thank you Harold and Sandie for all the hospitality during our stay. As usual we enjoyed the time we spent with you and your family.

We arrived at Hardeeville RV park in Hardeeville, SC and got setup around 4:30 p.m. This is a nice park that is in driving distance of Savannah, GA. Thanks Jim and Ellie for telling us about this place.

Good Times

Up at 6:00 a.m. this morning. We met Charles and Ethel and enjoyed attended church with them. Afterwards we had breakfast at a local restaurant called the Village Inn. The food was delicious and the conversation priceless. Thank you Charles and Ethel for inviting us to share your Sunday morning with us.

Later in the afternoon we headed over to Harold and Sandie’s to visit with them and the rest of their family. Sandie and I decided to watch the video “Hachi a dog’s tale” while John and Harold watched softball. This is a good movie but be warned…..you will need some tissues handy when you watch it.

Harold grilled burgers and Sandie prepared all the fixings along with corn on the cob. For dessert she baked a pineapple upside down cake. Everything was so yummy. After dinner we all sat down to a game of 10 Penny. Harold III (Harold and Sandie's son) and his wife Brandi and both children joined in on the fun today. We all had a great time.

More 10 Penny

Slept in until 10. After breakfast we went to Walmart then over to Harold's for cards. We did get an email from Charles (Roz) inviting us to attend church with them in the morning. We will be meeting them nearby and ride with them to their church for an 8 am service. Sandie made an outstanding lasagna for supper, Bridget made a salad to go with it along with garlic bread, I ate too much. Nicole and her children came over for more cards, you guessed it, 10 penny. That's it for our day.

Meeting with fellow RV-Dreamer

Slept in until around 9:00 a.m. this morning. After breakfast John, Fred and I took a walk around the park.

Later on we headed out to meet fellow RV-Dreamer Charles (Roz).   We met at a restaurant at the corner of Atlantic Boulevard and First Street.  Thanks for the lunch Charles.  The next one is on us. It was good to see Charles and exchange stories and experiences of RV parks, restaurants and the fulltimer life.  He shared his knowledge of local history.  Before we left we walked through Pete’s bar which has been there since 1933 and was the setting for a chapter in one of John Grisham’s books. Pretty cool place.

After saying our goodbyes to Charles it was on to Wal-Mart to pick up prescriptions and a few other items.  By the time we were finished with Wal-Mart it was time to return to the camper to feed Fred and head over to Harold and Sandies.

Sandie fixed tacos for dinner tonight.  Thanks Sandie.  They were delicious.  After dinner we all sat around and played 10 penny.

Errands

Up at 7:30, after computering, blog reading and Colorado reservation setting we headed over to my brothers. Plan was to get mail sent back home for birthdays and fathers day gifts and the stuff we bought for Robert and Kelsey. Also on the agenda was Walmart for prescriptions and Bed, Bath and Beyond for a kitchen item for Sandie. Harold got off around 11 and when he got home we left for Walmart to drop off prescriptions. On the way Harold asked what was for lunch. Answer: Seafood Kitchen. At WM we dropped off the scripts and were told the pharmacist will have to call the Madison, MS WM to transfer the scripts and it would be an hour or so before it would be ready. From there was Seafood Kitchen, Harold and I had the seafood sampler which was fantastic. Bridget had grilled shrimp with baked potato and apple sauce, Sandie had the fish with baked potato and slaw. Excellent food if you are in the area. Located at 31 Royal Palms Drive, Atlantic Beach, FL. From there we headed out to BB&B and picked up the item for Sandie. Back at WM 3 hours later and they can't find my prescription. Turns out the pharmacist had not yet called Madison WM. They were also out of one of Bridget's meds and would have to order it so we will return tomorrow after 3 to pick all of the scripts up. We went back to Harold's and forgot about the mail so it will go out tomorrow as well. We played a few rounds of 10 penny then to the trailer to feed Fred and let him out. Back to Harold's for supper of pork chops, potato's and green beans, yummy stuff! After supper more 10 penny with Nicole and her two kids. Nicole is H&S's daughter. Fun times til 9. Harold has to get up at 4:30 for work. Back at the trailer chilling.

Brucci’s Pizza

Up early this morning and over to Harold and Sandie’s. Harold was working at the bakery today so Sandie, John and I drove over to see him at work. Of course we could not turn down the donut holes, cinnamon twists, sticky buns or the lemon filled pastries. They were all so good. After leaving the bakery we ran around town taking care of several errands. By the time we finished the errands it was lunch time so we stopped in at a local Chinese restaurant called Mayport Garden. The food is good and the prices are low.

For Dinner Harold and Sandie took us to Brucci’s Pizza. The pizza was very good. We all had pizza and salad. Upon returning to Harold and Sandie’s we decided to play 10 Penny. This was the first time for Harold and Sandie to play it but I think they liked it.

Moving on to Jacksonville

Today was a travel day. Around mid-morning we started getting the RV travel ready. We arrived at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park around 12:45, set up then quickly ate a turkey sandwich and headed to Island Massages in Amelia Island, FL for our 2:00 appointments. John found this place on the internet and made the appointments before we left Flagler Beach this morning.

Island Massages offered a package deal that included 90 minute massages for both of us. If you are in the area of Amelia Island and would like a great massage this is the place to go. I think John fell asleep during his. It was very relaxing.

Later on John and I went over to his brother Harold’s house to visit with him and his family.
